{"id":1093,"date":"2017-07-08T11:47:07","date_gmt":"2017-07-08T11:47:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/denleymusic.com\/primaryblog\/?p=1093"},"modified":"2017-07-08T11:47:07","modified_gmt":"2017-07-08T11:47:07","slug":"dynamic-and-italian-terms-for-singing-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/ldsprimary\/?p=1093","title":{"rendered":"Dynamics and Italian Terms for Singing Time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have one child in Primary who loves to torment me (why is there always one?).\u00a0 Anyways, he said &#8220;Why don&#8217;t you teach us actual music?&#8221;\u00a0 So I thought &#8220;Okay, I will&#8221;.\u00a0 So I quickly made up these Dynamics and Italian Terms cards to use whenever I want to revise a song with the children.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/ldsprimary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Dynamics-and-Italian-Terms-picture-cropped.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1113\" src=\"http:\/\/denleymusic.com\/primaryblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Dynamics-and-Italian-Terms-picture-cropped-300x222.jpg\" alt=\"Dynamics-and-Italian-Terms-picture-cropped\" width=\"300\" height=\"222\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/ldsprimary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Dynamics-and-Italian-Terms-picture-cropped-300x222.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/ldsprimary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Dynamics-and-Italian-Terms-picture-cropped.jpg 717w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I did do them quickly, and added to them as I went so they&#8217;re not consistent.\u00a0 Here are the secrets:-<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Dynamics cards are not back to back on each sheet.\u00a0 Rather the first side of\u00a0page 1 goes with the first side of page 2.\u00a0 The second side of page 1 goes with the second side of page 2&#8230;if that makes sense.\u00a0 Etc.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Italian Terms cards are easier.\u00a0 They&#8217;re on the same page.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Cut each little half page out, match it up and laminate.\u00a0 I stuck a giant paddle pop stick onto one side of a page with sticky tape.\u00a0 Then I stuck the matching side on with more tape.\u00a0 Simple but effective.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If I were to print them out again, I would do all the Italian Term cards one colour, and all the Dynamics cards a different colour, but I&#8217;m not going to waste paper at this point.\u00a0 Besides, it keeps the children on their toes \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Just to avoid confusion, here are what the fronts and backs of each card is supposed to say:-<\/p>\n<p>DYNAMICS:<\/p>\n<p>P &#8211; Piano\/Soft<\/p>\n<p>F &#8211; Forte\/Loud<\/p>\n<p>(Rectangle hanging from a line) &#8211; Semibreve Rest\/Whole Bar Rest<\/p>\n<p>Sfz &#8211; Sforzando\/Strong Accent<\/p>\n<p>(Looks like a greater than sign) &#8211; Crescendo<\/p>\n<p>(Looks like a less than sign) &#8211; Diminuendo<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>ITALIAN TERMS<\/p>\n<p>Staccato &#8211; Short and Separate\/Detached<\/p>\n<p>Legato &#8211; Smoothly, Well Connected<\/p>\n<p>Calando &#8211; Gradual decrease in volume and tempo<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The children absolutely love these, especially Snr Primary.\u00a0 I generally use two at a time for each verse of a song I want to revise.\u00a0 I might throw in an extra &#8216;surprise&#8217; in a verse.\u00a0 Use Sfz sparingly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here are the pdf&#8217;s of the cards:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/ldsprimary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Italian-Terms-for-Singing-Time-1.pdf\">Italian Terms for Singing Time 1<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/ldsprimary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Dynamics-for-Singing-Time1-.pdf\">Dynamics for Singing Time1<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have one child in Primary who loves to torment me (why is there always one?).\u00a0 Anyways, he said &#8220;Why don&#8217;t you teach us actual music?&#8221;\u00a0 So I thought &#8220;Okay, I will&#8221;.\u00a0 So I quickly made up these Dynamics and Italian Terms cards to use whenever I want to revise a song with the children.
