{"id":65,"date":"2010-08-16T09:22:03","date_gmt":"2010-08-16T09:22:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/denleymusic.com\/primaryblog\/?p=65"},"modified":"2010-08-16T09:22:03","modified_gmt":"2010-08-16T09:22:03","slug":"music-rhythm-game-dont-clap-this-one-back-with-rhythm-flash-cards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/ldsprimary\/?p=65","title":{"rendered":"Music rhythm game &#8216;Don&#8217;t clap this one back&#8217; with rhythm flash cards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I first heard of this game through Samantha Coates at the Winter Piano Teacher&#8217;s Seminar and I loved the idea. \u00a0I have tweaked it a little though.<\/p>\n<p>How to play:-<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clap a rhythm to your class\/Primary. \u00a0They have to clap it back to you.<\/li>\n<li>The only rhythm they can&#8217;t clap back is &#8220;Don&#8217;t clap this one back&#8221; (aka crotchet, crotchet, quaver, quaver, crotchet &#8211; the one school teachers tend to favour).<\/li>\n<li>Clap whatever rhythms you like, and throw in the &#8220;Don&#8217;t clap this one back&#8221; rhythm to trick them.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t eliminate students in this game, as the ones who tend to get out first are generally the ones who need the most practise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To print out the guide sheet with basic 4\/4 rhythms on it (semibreves, minims, crotchets and quavers, no dotted notes), click here: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/ldsprimary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Don-t-Clap-This-One-Back.pdf\"><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/ldsprimary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Don-t-Clap-This-One-Back1.pdf\">&#8216;Don&#8217;t Clap This One Back&#8217; guide sheet<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you would like flash cards of all the rhythms used on the guide sheet, click here:<a href=\"http:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/ldsprimary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Dont-Clap-This-One-Back-rhythm-cards1.pdf\">Don&#8217;t Clap This One Back rhythm cards<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Variations on the game:-<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Student chooses the rhythms to clap and the teacher\/other students have to clap (or not) the rhythm.<\/li>\n<li>Print out a few copies of the rhythm cards and play memory or concentration, clapping the rhythms each time a card is turned over.<\/li>\n<li>Blu-tac the cards to a wall. \u00a0Teacher claps a rhythm and the student needs to identify the rhythm card that was clapped.<\/li>\n<li>Use percussion instruments, one note on the piano\/violin, body percussion to tap\/clap the cards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is a fantastic game to develop those aural skills and will capture the children&#8217;s attention.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I first heard of this game through Samantha Coates at the Winter Piano Teacher&#8217;s Seminar and I loved the idea. \u00a0I have tweaked it a little though.
