{"id":1227,"date":"2011-12-12T09:08:10","date_gmt":"2011-12-11T23:08:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/denleymusic.com\/wordpress\/?p=1227"},"modified":"2011-12-12T09:08:10","modified_gmt":"2011-12-11T23:08:10","slug":"sharps-flats-and-naturals-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/musicblog\/sharps-flats-and-naturals-game\/","title":{"rendered":"Sharps, Flats and Naturals Game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/musicblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Sharps-Flats-and-Naturals-playing-cards-page-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1230\" title=\"Sharps, Flats and Naturals playing cards page 1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/musicblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Sharps-Flats-and-Naturals-playing-cards-page-1-229x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"229\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>I had an awesome dream one night, that I was playing a game involving sharps, flats and naturals with some of my students.\u00a0 And we were having fun!\u00a0 The annoying thing is that I couldn&#8217;t remember the rules to the game.\u00a0 Isn&#8217;t that always the way? ;D<\/p>\n<p>After a little procrastination, here are the cards: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/musicblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Sharps-Flats-and-Naturals-playing-cards.pdf\">Sharps, Flats and Naturals playing cards<\/a> and here are the backs of the cards: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/musicblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Sharps-Flats-and-Naturals-playing-card-backs.pdf\">Sharps, Flats and Naturals playing card backs<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The logic behind this game is that it is a great note revision game as well as teaching that a natural will cancel out a sharp or flat.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>How to play the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>long version<\/strong><\/span>:-<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Give each player 7 cards. Put the rest in a pile in the middle.<\/li>\n<li>Check through your cards to see if you have any &#8216;pairs&#8217;.\u00a0 A pair will be a flat or a sharp, teamed up with its natural.\u00a0 All pairs need to be cancelled out ie E Flat needs an E Natural to count as a &#8216;pair&#8217;.\u00a0 Put these pairs aside.<\/li>\n<li>The aim of the game is to get rid of all the cards in your hand.<\/li>\n<li>Player one asks the player to his left if they have e.g an &#8220;E&#8221;.
