{"id":1391,"date":"2013-06-24T19:59:36","date_gmt":"2013-06-24T09:59:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/denleymusic.com\/wordpress\/?p=1391"},"modified":"2013-06-24T19:59:36","modified_gmt":"2013-06-24T09:59:36","slug":"students-in-a-string-group-what-do-they-get-out-of-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/musicblog\/students-in-a-string-group-what-do-they-get-out-of-it\/","title":{"rendered":"Students in a String Group &#8211; what do they get out of it?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Due to popular request by a lot of my violin students, I now hold a String Group for them one Friday night each month.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to it, I will give them music to learn at home.\u00a0 On the Friday, they bring their music, and we do some scales and I organise some sight reading for them to do before we tackle the piece that they do together.<\/p>\n<p>They learn so many skills playing in a group that they wouldn&#8217;t learn playing solo during a lesson.<\/p>\n<p>They learn these things:-<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Why bowing is so important (so you don&#8217;t take out the eye of the person next to you).<\/li>\n<li>They learn about volume.\u00a0 If they can&#8217;t hear the rest of the group, or those who are playing the melody, then they&#8217;re playing too loud.<\/li>\n<li>They learn to watch a conductor.<\/li>\n<li>They learn that they need to practice their part beforehand so they don&#8217;t feel silly playing in front of other people.<\/li>\n<li>They learn that other people make mistakes too, not just them, and that it&#8217;s okay.<\/li>\n<li>They learn how to mark their music.<\/li>\n<li>They learn to share a music stand and work as a team.<\/li>\n<li>They make new friends who appreciate music as much as they do!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Over the next few posts, I&#8217;ll put up the music we have been doing in my String Groups since February this year.<\/p>\n<p>Is this something you&#8217;d do with your students?\u00a0 What benefits do you think you&#8217;d get out of it.\u00a0 What benefits do you think they&#8217;d get?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Due to popular request by a lot of my violin students, I now hold a String Group for them one Friday night each month.
