{"id":291,"date":"2010-07-24T17:39:32","date_gmt":"2010-07-24T07:39:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/denleymusic.com\/wordpress\/?p=291"},"modified":"2010-07-24T17:39:32","modified_gmt":"2010-07-24T07:39:32","slug":"violin-games-for-beginners-pluck-that-string","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/musicblog\/violin-games-for-beginners-pluck-that-string\/","title":{"rendered":"Violin Games for Beginners &#8220;Pluck that string&#8221;."},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/musicblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/violin-clip-art.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-292\" title=\"violin clip art\" src=\"http:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/musicblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/violin-clip-art.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"128\" height=\"82\" \/><\/a><em><strong>PLUCK THAT STRING<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>I am currently teaching a 3 year old. \u00a0It isn&#8217;t difficult, but you do need to use a LOT of games to make your point, to teach them well and maintain interest.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s one I play in my first lesson which I have titled &#8220;Pluck that string&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>How to play:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Student sits on the floor with their violin in their lap. \u00a0I sit opposite them with my violin in my lap.<\/li>\n<li>We go over the open strings one by one, making sure the student can tell the difference between them (point out G is the thickest string, E is the thinnest). I also point out that the strings spell out &#8220;G&#8217;DAE&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>Begin the game by telling the student you are going to call out a string, and they have to try and pluck it before you do.<\/li>\n<li>Start slowly, ensuring the student can pluck the string you have just called out before you pluck it. \u00a0Speed it up when they get better at locating the strings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Also a great game parents can play at home with their littlies.<\/p>\n<p>For older students, I adapt it a little more to have them holding the violin in &#8216;proper pizzicato hold&#8217; then play the game the same way. \u00a0Even adults need to play games, our brains seem to remember things better that way.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PLUCK THAT STRING I am currently teaching a 3 year old. \u00a0It isn&#8217;t difficult, but you do need to use a LOT of games to make your point, to teach them well and maintain interest.
