I needed an interval drill game for my violin students.\u00a0 There are lots of great ones out there for piano students.<\/p>\n

\u00a0I usually show my violin students the intervals firstly on the\u00a0staff then on the piano, and they can easily hold one finger down on one note and count up the distance on the piano (very simply to start off, no sharps of flats involved for them of course).\u00a0 Playing intervals on the violin is a slightly different story but I think it’s just as important for them to learn intervals on the violin as well.<\/p>\n

So here are Christmas Intervals for the Violin.<\/p>\n

How to play:-<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. You need two separate piles of cards.\u00a0 One containing the Presents and one with the Christmas Trees.\u00a0 I would print out two copies of the cards with the Trees just so that you have enough.\u00a0 The cards are small enough to be able to fit nicely on the music stand, or on a table, but I prefer a music stand.<\/li>\n
  2. The student needs to turn over one card from each pile and play the first note provided, then work out the interval on the Christmas Tree card.<\/li>\n
  3. Play the intervals and sing them (singing in tune – a great pitch exercises for violinists too).<\/li>\n
  4. If correct, turn over another two cards and keep going until all cards are used up.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
