{"id":659,"date":"2010-12-20T11:46:26","date_gmt":"2010-12-20T01:46:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/denleymusic.com\/wordpress\/?p=659"},"modified":"2010-12-20T11:46:26","modified_gmt":"2010-12-20T01:46:26","slug":"singing-time-learning-a-new-song-with-a-bouncy-die","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/musicblog\/singing-time-learning-a-new-song-with-a-bouncy-die\/","title":{"rendered":"Singing Time &#8211; learning a new song (with a bouncy die)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/musicblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/rubber-dice.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-661\" title=\"rubber dice\" src=\"http:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/musicblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/rubber-dice-300x206.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"206\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/musicblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/rubber-dice-300x206.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/musicblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/rubber-dice-1024x703.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/musicblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/rubber-dice-768x528.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/musicblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/rubber-dice-1536x1055.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/musicblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/rubber-dice-2048x1407.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>I am helping out with our Ward&#8217;s Singing Time until the end of January as the Music Leader has gone to Hawaii (lucky her!!!).\u00a0 We were asked to\u00a0do a Christmas musical item\u00a0in Sacrament Meeting however only had 3 weeks to learn something.\u00a0 I chose to do a Medley of &#8216;When Joseph Went To Bethlehem&#8217; and &#8216;He Sent His Son&#8217; (same tonality and they had already learned &#8216;He Sent His Son&#8217; for the Presentation).\u00a0 The task of learning &#8216;When Joseph&#8230;&#8217; wasn&#8217;t too bad.\u00a0 The Seniors picked it up no problems, but the Juniors were having trouble with the second verse.<\/p>\n<p>I decided to do this game with them (both Jnrs and Snrs) and it worked wonders.<\/p>\n<p>You will need:-<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>One die<\/li>\n<li>One white board marker<\/li>\n<li>One white board<\/li>\n<li>An enthusiastic bunch of kids and leaders<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>How to play:-<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Write up the words of the song you&#8217;re going to sing beforehand on the white board.<\/li>\n<li>Sing the words through a couple of times with the kids once so they are familiar with the words (I played this game the Sunday before they had to sing it &#8211; they had already been learning it for 2 weeks prior).<\/li>\n<li>Ask a child to come up and roll a die.\u00a0 I use a giant bouncy one, which adds to the fun.\u00a0 They all want a turn of it.<\/li>\n<li>If they roll a 3, rub out every third word (or third word of the verse you are working on).\u00a0 Roll a 6 &#8211; rub out ever 6th word etc.\u00a0 The problem is if someone rolls a 1.\u00a0 You would have to rub out EVERYTHING!\u00a0 That&#8217;s also part of the fun.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I was so amazed at how focused the children were, and the adults in the room.
