(The Wiggles have a fun version, if you google it).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Game:<\/strong> Happy New Year (found here: <a href=\"http:\/\/susanparadis.wordpress.com\/2011\/01\/05\/new-year-game-reminder\/\">Happy New Year Game<\/a>\u00a0on the Susan Paradis website)<\/p>\n<p>Students had to name and place the token on their game board.\u00a0 They were very good at naming everything by the end because they decided to help each other!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Game:<\/strong> Wiggly Worm Game (found here: <a href=\"http:\/\/singanewsongmusic.blogspot.com\/2010\/09\/wiggly-worm-game.html\">Wiggly Worm Game<\/a>).\u00a0 Students had to pick up a card.\u00a0 If they could name it, they got to hold on to it.\u00a0 If they couldnt&#8217;, they had to put it back at the bottom of the pile.\u00a0 If they picked up a worm, they got to &#8216;steal&#8217; someone else&#8217;s card if they could name it first.\u00a0 Lots of giggles in this game when they picked up a worm card, and they were such good sports, it was lovely to play with them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Game:<\/strong> High or Low sounds.\u00a0 This was an Aural exercise for them.\u00a0 I printed up some &#8216;High&#8217; or &#8216;Low&#8217; cards for them, laminated them and stuck them on paddle pop sticks.\u00a0 I played some sounds (chords, single notes, melodic passages etc) on the piano and the students had to figure out if I was playing up high, or down low and hold up the relevant sign.\u00a0 To print out a copy of the &#8216;High&#8217; and &#8216;Low&#8217; cards, click here: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denleymusic.com\/musicblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/High-and-Low-signs.pdf\">High and Low signs<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Song\/Rhyme<\/strong>: To finish off with, I decided to do something quiet.\u00a0 I printed out some daffodils from a clip art site on the computer, and I said this poem, taken from the &#8216;Sing a New Song&#8217; website:<\/p>\n<p><em>Daffodils Fingerplay<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>One little daffodil had nothing much to do,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Out popped another one, then there were two.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Two little daffodils were smiling at a bee,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Out popped another one and then there were three.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Three little daffodils were growing by the door,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Out popped another one and then there were four.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Four little daffodils were glad to be alive,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Out popped another one and then there were five.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Five little daffodils were wearing golden crowns.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>They danced in the breeze in green satin gown.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>My students did the actions with me on their fingers, and they were quite mesmorised after such an intense session with me.\u00a0 We had some younger siblings join in as well, so it was a great way to end.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to relate it to the &#8216;Theme&#8217; of The Great Music Dig, I explained that we find worms in the ground, which is where archaeologists dig, and daffodils grow\u00a0out of the ground\u00a0as well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have a few littlies I teach.\u00a0 Some do Kinder Beat, some learn violin and other learn piano.
